The Search to be Understood

First – Schedule a Phone Consultation

My counseling process begins with a phone consultation. During this time I’ll have you share why you are seeking counseling and we will discuss the options available to address your problem/issues. This is not a counseling session, but instead is a time to see if we are a good fit.

Please fill out the contact form on this page and I will reach out to you to schedule a suitable time for a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation. I do consultations Mondays through Fridays. 

If we determine together to move forward, we will schedule a counseling appointment.

Metropolitan Phoenix Clients

In-person counseling appointments are available in the Biltmore/Arcadia (central Phoenix) area on Mondays.

New York State and Arizona Clients

Online (telepractice) appointments are available Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Sometimes Mondays are also available.

Second – Complete Client Paperwork

Once we have your first appointment scheduled, I’ll send you an email with links to your New Client Paperwork. For your convenience all the required client paperwork will be completed online. I ask for these to be completed no later than 48 hours prior to your first scheduled appointment. Please be sure to complete everything, as I prefer to review these before our scheduled time. I find this makes our first appointment more productive.

Third – Arrive Early

I suggest clients plan to arrive early for their appointment so they can settle in and take a breath before our session begins. For online appointments, try to log in at least five minutes early to make sure you have no problems connecting. Please text me if you are unable to log in.

Conveniently located near Paradise Valley, Scottsdale, Tempe, and the Central Corridor. I am located in the Finley Medical Plaza, north of Indian School Road on the west side of 32nd Street. The complex is a two-story Spanish-style building with a driveway on the south side of the building. Park near the entrance where you’ll see a courtyard and can access either stairs or an elevator to my second-floor suite. Follow the walkway around the back until it ends. You’ll see several doors. I am located in Suite I, which is shared by several therapists. Come on in and make yourself comfortable in the waiting area.

Fees & Payments

Fees

Complimentary initial phone consultation about 15 – 20 minutes.

Fees for psychotherapy, counseling, and coaching sessions are $140 for 50 minutes and are payable at the time of service.

Insurance

I do not take insurance for a number of reasons. First, I believe it is important for my clients to get the most effective counseling and also have full privacy throughout the therapeutic process. By providing private payment, you will have privacy since I am not obligated to provide your insurance company with sensitive information about you or our counseling sessions.

Also, managed care companies often dictate the number of sessions allowed and I believe that should be a decision you and I make together. Insurance benefits typically can only be used to treat illness, requiring a diagnosis of a mental health disorder. This becomes a part of your permanent medical record and could be used when applying for life insurance, disability claims, pistol permits, etc.

Sometimes insurance companies will partially reimburse for out-of-network providers after an annual deductible has been met. If you wish to invite your managed care company into our therapeutic relationship, I can provide you with a receipt (including diagnostic information, if necessary) so you can file for reimbursement. Please note you are responsible for the full payment of your session fee at the time of your appointment and any reimbursement you are seeking needs to be negotiated between you and your insurance company. I do not interact with insurance companies.

Payments

I accept cash, debit, credit card, or HSA. I take Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. I do require clients keep a Credit Card Authorization Form on file to cover late cancellation and no-show fees. I require 24-hour cancellation or the amount of the full session will be charged.
