Psychotherapist – Counselor - Coach

About Sheri Orr

Assisting people, either counseling or coaching for 25+ years, I hold a master’s degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy. Practicing in two states, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Arizona. I am also a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional (CIMHP) and a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP).

With a passion for helping people get “unstuck,” I believe relationships, both formative and current, influence who we are. In addition, I believe mental health is not just limited to the head. How our bodies are functioning, the lifestyle choices we make, and the stressors we face, among other things, influence who we are. When addressing mental health issues, I like to work with the whole person.

I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the relationship between their beliefs, thoughts, actions, and moods in order to change their relationship with anxiety. I use psychodynamic therapy to help clients get at the underlying issues affecting them and to help them understand how relationship dynamics impact them. I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) to help clients with OCD.

In addition to my certifications in anxiety and integrative medicine, I am also certified in both Prepare/Enrich and SYMBIS, which are assessments for couples that I may use when helping them prepare for marriage.

I have also received extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). These both help inform my counseling approach, and I will pull these interventions into my counseling work at times.

Most of my counseling experience has been outpatient counseling, but I also conducted therapy in my early years in long-term residential treatment. I have conducted individual, couples, pre-marital, marital, family, and group therapy. Additionally, my coaching experience includes individual, premarital, and marital coaching.
